Northern Spark

March 6, 2013

Out of over a hundred Northern Spark installations, one shone particularly bright: Minneapolis lighting designer Michael Murnane’s Under Ice. Exploring the living world under ice, the work used high-resolution projectors, live multilayer playback technology and stage lighting to illuminate the historic Pillsbury A-Mill with images inspired by frozen landscapes and personal reflections.

Dominium, the developer of Schmidt Artist Lofts and A-Mill Artist Lofts, was one of the sponsors of the 2012 Northern Spark dusk-to-dawn arts festival, which drew 250 artists and 40,000 attendees to dozens of projects spread across the Twin Cities, all happening overnight from sunset June 9 to sunrise June 10, all inspired by the theme “Think and Wonder, Wonder and Think.” Next year’s all-nighter can’t come soon enough for us.
